Volunteering and Fundraising

Crime Stoppers is an international nonprofit organization that encourages members of the public to provide anonymous information about criminal activity to help law enforcement agencies solve crimes. Crime Stoppers does not use any form of caller identification, tracing or tracking. We do not collect any personal information from our citizens, so you remain completely anonymous. After submitting a tip, you will be provided a unique code to use when checking the status of your tip or picking up your reward. Merritt and the Nicola Valley has its own Crime Stoppers program, with local people who raise all funds needed to run our local chapter. Our mission is to facilitate a safer society by encouraging citizens like you to come forward with crucial information about crimes and criminals. By ensuring anonymity, we make it easier for you to cooperate without fear of retaliation, enabling law enforcement to act effectively.

If you are interested in volunteering, please reach out to us. You can also speak to our members at community events or email us to arrange to meet our team and discuss opportunities. Volunteering Opportunities

Board of Directors – Our Society meets once a month to accomplish the business of the society. This includes planning fundraisers, providing updates from the provincial and national organizations, as well as discussing local opportunities to engage the public and keep Crime Stoppers relevant in the Nicola Valley. This position requires a criminal record check and a strong commitment to confidentiality.

Special Event Volunteer – Our program mandate is only accomplished if the public remembers our program. This requires our society members to remain visible within the community. This can include displays at community events, floats in local parades, running a local bike registry event, as well as other opportunities. If you like to be involved in the community, this could be a good fit for you.

Fundraising – Fundraising events can be a fun thing to be involved in. We raise all our funds locally for Merritt and the Nicola Valley. These funds will be used for tip payouts, programming, volunteer training, and future community events. If you like planning fundraising events, we would love to have you join our team.

Our Society would like to acknowledge the contribution that Pat Lunzmann made towards community safety in the Nicola Valley.  For many years Pat served as the Speed Watch Program coordinator where she focused on road safety.  This involved sitting roadside to provide speed feedback in areas of concern including in school zones.   As time passed, Pat shifted her focus to less physically demanding projects including serving as a Board Member for the Merritt & Nicola Valley Crime Stoppers Society.   This continued until her passing in June of 2023.  Pat's passion for helping and her understanding of the effort required to make things happen made her a valuable member of our team.

We are grateful to acknowledge her efforts and know that Pat was able to make a difference in our community for many years.
